Poems of Himadri Maitra
The story of an oyster and the birth of a pearl
I don’t know how oysters are born.
May be how they born
Recorded somewhere
But I don’t know.
It was even not known
Which oyster gives birth to pearls!
But deep inside I had an oyster.
I don’t know why, I don’t know when,
I don’t know how it came.
A soft, small body
in its hard shell.
But the soul that was inside it,
The melody of joy that was inside it,
That the song of survival,
Didn’t have the provisions
For survival in me.
So I made a room
Hidden deep in my heart.
And I don’t know what happened.
I just knew it was there.
In the intense deep of my heart,
In its innocent peace.
Spreading its light
To my dark side
One day it dawned on me.
I found an oyster!
I know an oyster
For many days in secret,
in deep love
Behind all the waves
May give birth to pearls.
Old Moon
Old Moon, you are so beautiful!
Having borrowed the sunlight,
Having lost some of its shine in the third day
Having smeared on face the red of the coral
Old Moon, you are so beautiful!
Opening the window of darkness
Forgetting the secret of my night
Peeking into her loose hair!
The tired sky is covered in blue,
Old Moon, you are so beautiful!
The leaves of the trees are bowed
Breathing heavily and very lightly.
They have been burned by the sun all day,
But who will they complain to?
Old Moon, you are so beautiful!
