Alluvium
Poetry month, April 2025 || Issue- 2
Editorial
Dear readers,
The publication of this issue of Alluvium, an initiative of translated Bengali poetry by Monmanchitra, coincides with the celebration of National Poetry Month, a special occasion marking poetry’s important place in our life. Throughout the month of April, readers as well as poets are observing the occasion, upholding the notion that poetry matters. Alluvium, in its 2nd issue, is offering you some Bengali poems in their English translation to join the occasion.
Translating poems is always a tough task. The difficulty in capturing the essence and nuances of a poem when translated into another language makes the journey of a translator arduous. But we have no option but to translate Bengali poems to reach foreign readers. And the exchange is crucial in introducing the readers with the soul, i.e., poetry, of our language.
We faced significant challenges in obtaining translated poems. Many could not submit their work as promised. And our unfruitful waiting for the promised work delayed our venture.
Against all the odds, the issue is out now. It is curated with the poems of nine poets. We hope you will enjoy it.
